The GEO Symposium 2026 and the GEO-21 Plenary will take place from 26 to 28 May 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland, bringing together the global Earth observation community to foster collaboration, innovation, and strategic decision-making under the theme “Investing in Earth Intelligence for a Resilient Future.”

On 26 and 27 May, the GEO Symposium will be held as a two-day event starting with a high-level opening session, followed by town hall discussions and multiple parallel events. These activities are designed to promote knowledge exchange and strengthen cooperation among stakeholders across the sector.

The programme will include sessions focused on new approaches to implementing the GEO Post-2025 Work Programme, as well as on the use of emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital twins, drones, and high-resolution satellite imagery—to develop innovative Earth intelligence solutions. In addition, thematic parallel events, showcase spaces for initiatives, networking opportunities, and stakeholder engagement sessions will be organised.

In this context, Manuela Balzarolo will attend the event and present CMCC’s activities in the field of Earth observation, including those related to the Germ of Life project.

On 28 May, the GEO-21 Plenary will bring together representatives of GEO Member countries and Participating Organizations to address strategic and governance matters. The agenda will include high-level sessions with international representatives, presentations of flagship initiatives demonstrating the impact of Earth intelligence on decision-making, and discussions on new models of collaboration and global engagement. The event will conclude with a closing session reviewing key decisions and outlining next steps.

Key themes of the event include climate and disaster resilience, data-driven decision-making, open data, and the implementation of the GEO Post-2025 Strategy.
