International Day for Biological Diversity will be celebrated on 22 May 2026 as a global event organised by the United Nations to raise awareness of the importance of protecting ecosystems and the diversity of life on the planet. The event, coordinated by the Convention on Biological Diversity, mobilises institutions, organisations and the public every year through educational initiatives, campaigns and awareness-raising activities around the world.
Under the slogan “Act locally for a global impact”, the 2026 edition emphasises the role of local-scale actions as a driver of change in the face of biodiversity loss. The campaign is structured around the connection between communities, knowledge and action, promoting initiatives that contribute to international conservation and sustainability goals.
The day will feature events, workshops, outreach activities and community projects in various countries, with the aim of strengthening collective awareness of the value of biodiversity as the foundation of environmental health, food security and human well-being.
