Germ of Life – Open Event
Title: “GERM OF LIFE: CLIMATE CHALLENGES, WATER MANAGEMENT & CO-CREATION”
21 October 2026 | 09:00–16:00
Theme: Drought Risk Management, Climate Change Adaptation & Innovative Digital Solutions
As climate change intensifies drought risks across the Mediterranean, strengthening regional preparedness and promoting innovative water management solutions are becoming increasingly important. The Germ of Life project invites researchers, policymakers, regional authorities, technology providers and local stakeholders to an open event in Vila-seca, Spain, dedicated to exploring practical solutions for drought risk management and climate change adaptation.
The event marks an important step in the project’s transition from testing to transfer, focusing on how innovative digital tools can be adapted to the specific needs of different Mediterranean territories. Through technical presentations, expert discussions and collaborative activities, participants will explore how data-driven approaches can support drought prediction, vulnerability assessment and more informed decision-making.
Participants will be introduced to the three key Germ of Life solutions:
-
Drought Risk Prediction Solution: Supporting the monitoring and anticipation of drought risks.
-
Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT): Helping assess territorial vulnerability to drought and climate-related pressures.
-
Innovation Procurement Platform (IPP): Facilitating the identification and adoption of innovative solutions.
The programme will also feature a roundtable discussion on drought risk management and climate change adaptation, bringing together experts and regional stakeholders to exchange knowledge, experiences and perspectives on emerging challenges.
A central part of the event will be the co-creation workshop, where project partners and external stakeholders will work together to identify local needs and explore how Germ of Life tools can be adapted to support practical decision-making and effective water management.
The event will conclude with a technical field visit to Mas dels Frares, providing an additional opportunity for knowledge exchange and engagement with local infrastructure.
