Water takes centre stage in the Natural Heritage Mission’s first thematic webinar of 2026

12/06/2026

Water management, climate resilience and the need to promote more integrated solutions for Mediterranean territories were among the key topics discussed during the first thematic webinar of 2026 organised by the Interreg Euro-MED Natural Heritage Mission.

The session brought together around 70 participants from different projects, institutions and organisations linked to the Mission to reflect on one of the region’s most pressing shared challenges: how to ensure sustainable water management in a context of increasingly frequent and severe droughts.

Throughout the webinar, participants were introduced to some of the main initiatives and strategies shaping the European and international water agenda, as well as new approaches that seek to better connect water resource management with areas such as energy, food systems and ecosystem conservation.

The webinar provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, identify common priorities and explore new opportunities for collaboration among projects and stakeholders working towards a more resilient Mediterranean. One of the key messages that emerged during the discussion was the need to move from reflection to action, translating knowledge and good practices into concrete solutions on the ground.

For projects focused on improving drought risk management through digital tools and environmental data, initiatives such as this offer a valuable opportunity to connect results, knowledge and experiences with other actors pursuing similar objectives.

The webinar recording and supporting materials are available at this link for anyone interested in learning more about the challenges and opportunities related to water management in the Mediterranean region, as well as the strategies and projects helping to build more sustainable and climate-resilient territories for the future.
