17th Water Congress
The 17th Water Congress, which takes place in Lagos (Algarve, Portugal) between April 8th and 11th. The increasing pressure on water resources, the imbalance between water availability and demand, the climate adaptation scenario, the aging of built systems and risk management are ongoing challenges.
On the 10th, EDIA, one of the partners in the Germ of Life project, will present it at this congress. Luisa Pinto, Director of the Department of Environmental and Heritage Impacts, and Inés Camilo, an environmental management engineer, will explain the project.
Water governance is a central element in the program of the congress, and appropriate public policies are needed for water resources and for the sectoral uses of these resources. The approach must be holistic, integrated and cross-sectoral.
The response to these challenges involves combining solutions – not breaking with what we have done well, adapting what we do not do so well and innovating in what has not yet been done. There is still a long way to go in demand management (reducing consumption and improving water efficiency, and in supply management), exploring alternative water sources.
With more general or in-depth themes, in plenary or technical discussions, moments of knowledge sharing between decision-makers, experts, technicians, young professionals and students can be catalysts for concrete steps towards decisions, technical solutions and innovative methodologies.
