Regional event promoting the Germ of Life Project

15/04/2026

Major event related to the promotion of the Germ of Life project was the Eco Forum Patras, in Patras (Greece). The forum is considered an important annual conference dedicated to environmental sustainability, climate adaptation, infrastructure development, and civil protection.

Eco Forum brought together representatives from national government, regional authorities, universities, research institutions, and private sector organizations. Among the participants were government officials, regional leaders, experts in environmental policy, and representatives of scientific and technical organizations.

The conference addressed key challenges related to the climate crisis and the environmental impacts affecting the region of Achaia and Western Greece, particularly following recent forest fires and other environmental disasters. The main objective of the forum was to discuss how the region can move from crisis management toward long-term resilience and sustainable development.

The conference program included several thematic sessions covering topics such as climate crisis and civil protection, sustainable infrastructure, investment strategies for resilient regions, environmental governance, and climate adaptation policies. The discussions highlighted the need for coordinated actions between government institutions, regional authorities, and scientific organizations in order to strengthen environmental resilience and improve disaster preparedness.

Within the framework of the forum, the Region of Western Greece, with the Vice Governor of Achaia, Fokion Zaimis, organized a dedicated session presenting the Germ of Life project and its contribution to addressing drought risks and climate change impacts in Mediterranean regions. The session aimed to highlight the importance of scientific research, environmental monitoring systems, and innovative digital tools for improving drought prediction and prevention.

The University of Patras participated in this session as scientific coordinator and project partner, presenting the main objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes of the Germ of Life project. The presentation emphasized the importance of integrating scientific data, digital technologies, and regional cooperation in order to develop effective strategies for drought management.

During the session, project representatives discussed the role of meteorological monitoring stations, environmental indicators, and digital platforms that are being developed within the project to improve drought monitoring and risk assessment. These tools aim to support regional authorities, farmers, and local communities by providing reliable data and early warnings related to drought conditions.

The participation in Eco Forum provided an important opportunity to disseminate the results and activities of the Germ of Life project to a wider audience of policymakers, researchers, and regional stakeholders. The forum also facilitated networking and collaboration opportunities with institutions involved in environmental protection, climate policy, and sustainable development.

Overall, the event contributed significantly to increasing awareness about the project and strengthening cooperation between scientific institutions, public authorities, and regional stakeholders working toward climate resilience and environmental sustainability.
