Lisbon will host a new Natural Heritage Mission meeting in May to boost the protection of Mediterranean natural heritage

10/04/2026

The Portuguese capital will host, from 11 to 13 May, a major Natural Heritage Mission meeting, in which Germ of Life will take part, bringing together partners, experts and institutional representatives to advance the protection and enhancement of natural heritage across the Mediterranean region.

The meeting will take place at the Instituto Superior de Gestão (ISG), an academic venue in Lisbon that will host three days of working sessions focused on coordination, the exchange of results and the planning of future actions in the field of natural heritage.

The first day will be dedicated to internal coordination meetings among the mission partners, with the aim of progressing the joint roadmap and addressing technical and implementation-related issues across the different projects.

The programme will continue with the Community of Practice, a space designed to foster collaboration between projects such as Germ of Life. During this session, key aspects will be addressed, including the transfer of results from completed projects, the development of solutions from the study phase to implementation and replicability, as well as strengthening the community through the involvement of new stakeholders.

The agenda also includes sessions focused on cluster-based working methodologies, the presentation of ongoing project results and the promotion of new lines of collaboration. In addition, communication activities will be developed to raise awareness, including the preparation of content for a European campaign planned for 2026 and its dissemination at international events.

Among the highlights of the meeting is participation in the European Maritime Day in My Country event, where the “Solve the Challenge” campaign will be officially launched, helping to increase the visibility of initiatives linked to sustainability and natural heritage.

The third day will focus on the impact and future outlook of the projects, addressing issues such as policy advocacy, the identification of needs among thematic projects and the development of mentorship programmes to facilitate the transfer of results to other territories.

The day will also include working sessions dedicated to engaging external stakeholders, co-creating new activities and defining the next steps of the mission.

This meeting will represent an important opportunity to strengthen the role of Germ of Life within the Natural Heritage Mission, consolidating cooperation between projects and contributing to the development of innovative solutions for the protection of natural heritage in the Mediterranean.
