International Conference: “Climate Action in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East”

The International Conference “Climate Action in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East: Regional Cooperation Empowered by Science and Innovation” will take place on 8 and 9 April 2026 at the Filoxenia Conference Center in Nicosia. Organised by the EMME-CCI Secretariat in collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of Cyprus, this high-level event forms part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union and represents a key step from planning towards the implementation of concrete climate actions.

The conference will bring together government representatives, scientists and policymakers to advance science diplomacy in a region considered particularly vulnerable to climate change. Building on the Sharm el-Sheikh Declaration and the EMME-CCI Regional Action Plan, the event will address the scientific basis of climate change and examine the financial, legal and ethical challenges of adaptation, with the aim of fostering stronger and more effective regional cooperation.

The conference will also contribute to the development of evidence-based recommendations to inform the 2026 EU–Southern Neighbourhood Summit and the EU Informal Summit in Nicosia. Its main objectives include implementing the Regional Action Plan across the EMME region, strengthening cross-border cooperation between the European Union and its southern neighbours, and developing concrete policy proposals aligned with the priorities of the European Green Deal.
