The Germ of Life project has participated in the 5th Mediterranean Geosciences Union Annual Meeting (MedGU-25), held 10–12 November 2025 in Athens, Greece. The conference, hosted by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, brought together geoscientists from around the world to present and discuss the latest research in Earth and planetary sciences.
Scientific Contribution from the Hellenic Pilot
The Germ of Life project was represented by Michael Samouris, PhD candidate in the Department of Physics at the University of Patras, who presented his research work: “Sensitivity of Drought Assessment to the choice of Reference Period: A SPEI analysis in Greece (1960–2022)”
This study forms part of the analytical activities carried out for the Hellenic Pilot within the Germ of Life project. It investigates how different climatological reference periods influence drought assessment outcomes, offering valuable insight for improving regional climate resilience and long-term drought monitoring strategies in Greece and the Mediterranean.
