As part of the second day of the Greenlight project’s 3rd Transnational Meeting in Patras (Greece), participants were welcomed at the University of Patras. During the scientific and educational program, Mr. Michael Samouris, PhD Candidate, introduced the work of the Solar Energy Laboratory and presented the Interreg Euro-MED Germ of Life Project.
The University of Patras is the leading entity in the Germ of Life partnership, which involves 10 entities from 6 countries (Greece, Italy, Cyprus, France, Portugal, and Spain).
The Erasmus+ Project Greenlight participants at this meeting in Patras are from 6 entities from 5 countries: Mugla Sitki Kocman University (Turkey), Sredno Opshtinsko Uchiliste Nikola Karev Strumica (North Macedonia), Liofyllo Social Cooperative Enterprise (Greece), Mentese Sehit Mehmet Çetin Anadolu Íman Hatip Lisesi (Turkey), AE Alberto Sampaio (Portugal) and University of Minho (Portugal).
The presentation highlighted:
- The project’s objectives in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness.
- Its methodologies for integrating ecological principles into regional and cross-border strategies.
- The strong relevance of Germ of Life to educational practices in energy efficiency and environmental protection.
This session connected directly with Greenlight’s mission of advancing STEM-based sustainability education, reinforcing the value of cross-project collaboration in addressing climate and energy challenges.

Dr. George Syrrokostas, Assistant Professor of the Department of Applied Physics, began by presenting the activities of the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics. He then introduced the Interreg IPA Adrion Fenestrae Project, highlighting its innovative approach to promoting energy efficiency and solar integration in cross-border educational contexts.
After the presentations, participants were offered a guided visit to the university’s meteorological stations, providing hands-on insight into environmental data collection, monitoring instruments and their potential use.

In the afternoon, participants visited the Water House – a municipal information center dedicated to sustainable water use and public education. Prof. Konstantinos Konstantakopoulos, environmentalist and scientific manager of the center welcomed us. The educational exhibit explored water’s essential role across time and disciplines, focusing on:
- Water’s structural and biological significance.
- Historical evolution of water systems in Patras.
- Water pollution and biodiversity impact.
- Universal access to safe drinking water.
- Personal responsibility and conservation practices.
