The third project meeting consolidates the progress in the development of Germ of Life

Third meeting of all the partners of the Germ of Life project, of Interreg Euro-MED, co-funded by the European Union. In Nicosia (Cyprus), organized as host by the company Infotrend Innovations, led by Lelia Ataliani. In a room at the World Trade Center in the Cypriot capital, for two days, successive sessions were held to advance the various aspects of the project, whose project leader is Professor Athanassios A. Argiriou, from the Laboratory of Atmosperic Physics at the University of Patras:

Requirements, best practices and action plans assessment for the development of the joint solutions.

Delivery processes and co-design of the three jointly designs and developed solutions.

Adapting existing solutions for drought risk prediction.

Newly developed collaborative vulnerability assessment tool.

Innovation procurement platform for technologies and nature based solutions for drought risk mitigation.

Test activities and evaluation of solutions: Preparing pilot activities. Carbon footprint plan.

Strategy and action plans.

 

On the second day, in the session dedicated to innovative climate adaptation strategies and regional synergies in the Mediterranean, it were relevant two interventions: ‘Past and future climate & challenges in Cyprus’, by Mr. Anastasios Matsikaris, from Meteorology Department, Ministry of Agriculture; and ‘Advancing climate resilience and sustainability in the Mediterranean Macroregion: Innovative approaches and regional synergies’, by Mr. Fokion Zaimis, Deputy Governor of Achaia of the Region of Western Greece, Vice-President of the CPMR Intermediterranean Commission and President of the CPMR Balkan and Black Sea Commission.

In the session on learning from experience – insights and best practices from climate adaptation projects, Dr. George Zittis, from the Cyprus Institute, presented best practices from projects Ermis and Bingo (Bringing Innovation to Ongoing Water Management). Ms. Aikaterini Tokalaki, from the Department of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus, explained what is structuring the Nature Heritage Mission network. And Ms. Konstantina Lantavou, project manager at the Office of Deputy Governor of Achaia, of the Region of Western Greece, raised what drives the Coastrust project (Promoting shared stewardship for Mediterranean Coasts).
