The Councilor of Sustainability and Environment of the Regional Government of Andalusia (Spain), which is a partner of Germ of Life, has organized the first edition of the International Congress on Climate Change on October 24 and 25 in Jerez de la Frontera, which the andalusian regional government wants to promote annually. The European Commission has designated it as a complementary event to the European Week of Regions and Cities (EURegionsWeek 2024).
Technicians from the Environment and Water Agency, belonging to the Andalusian Environmental Information Network (REDIAM), have informed interested congressmen about the Germ of Life project. It was present in the Zona 13 exhibition area, in reference to SDG 13 – Climate Action, participating in networking and awareness activities.
The main purpose of the congress has been to debate environmental problems related to climate change, identify innovative solutions and promote collaborative actions to address this global-scale challenge. In addition, it has sought to promote the development of specific adaptation and mitigation strategies for the Andalusia region, taking into account its geographical, socioeconomic and environmental diversity.
The congress has been structured into five thematic blocks: Mitigation and energy transition; Adaptation, Communication and Participation; Science and Technology; Cultural Policies. and Financing.
To materialize the solutions, the essential role of regions and cities in the fight against climate change has been highlighted, given that a large part of the powers related to climate action and in sectors as crucial as the management of waste and the circular economy, mobility, water, renewable energies, and the protection of the environment and biodiversity, reside in the regions and municipalities.
